Power and connect IP cameras
A PoE switch can carry network data and compatible power to cameras over Ethernet. Choose enough ports, uplinks, switching capacity, per-port power, and total power budget for the connected devices and network design.
Choose managed or unmanaged operation
Managed switches can add remote monitoring and network controls, while simpler unmanaged models can fit straightforward edge deployments. Verify cable distance, surge protection, SFP needs, environmental conditions, and recorder connectivity.
- Count camera ports and uplinks separately.
- Confirm PoE, PoE+, or PoE++ requirements.
- Allow capacity for future devices.
- Document network ownership and configuration.
