Select for the exposure

An outdoor camera should have a published environmental rating suitable for the location. Rain, wind-driven water, dust, temperature, salt, direct sun, ice, and physical impact can require different housings and installation details.

Protect the entire connection

A camera rating does not automatically protect an exposed plug or cable termination. Use compatible junction boxes, drip loops, exterior-rated pathways, grounding, and surge protection appropriate to the site.

  • Check the exact IP and operating-temperature specifications.
  • Keep connections dry and serviceable.
  • Test nighttime reflections and insects.
  • Confirm mounts for wind and surface conditions.
