Plate capture is a dedicated view

A license-plate camera should be aimed at a controlled vehicle path with a defined distance, angle, speed, and plate size. A high-resolution overview camera is not automatically a reliable plate-capture camera.

Plan day and night separately

Headlights, reflective plates, weather, sun angle, and vehicle motion affect plate evidence. Pair the dedicated plate view with a separate overview camera when vehicle description and surrounding context are also needed.

  • Define the lane and capture point before mounting.
  • Keep horizontal and vertical angles controlled.
  • Verify shutter and illumination settings in the real scene.
  • Confirm the exact camera and recorder workflow documentation.
